Malcolm
After graduating in Zoology and spending a season as a whaling inspector in the Antarctic he worked at whaling stations in the Azores, Norway, and South Africa. He completed a Ph.D. and did research on cephalopods and their predators at the National Institute of Oceanography, Wormley, UK and the Marine Biological Association of the UK, Plymouth, obtaining a D.Sc. and F.R.S. and spending 5 years at sea in the process. Since 1987, he has been free lance in 'retirement' with grants from the Royal Society and a Leverhulme fellowship. He has authored, co-authored or edited over 150 scientific papers, books and articles and is still writing papers. He has taken part in BBC, National Geographic, Discovery Channel and Pitcairn video productions. Visiting Professor at Liverpool University and visiting scientist at the Azores University, Department of Oceanography and Fisheries (DOP).
He designed the museum (any mistakes are his) and has produced with Dorothy, all the exhibits.
Dorothy
After graduating in Zoology she qualified as a teacher and taught for 13 years after raising 4 children. Since retirement she has co-authored 2 papers on the diets of fish and, for the Expo, has made life sized, soft sculptures of the rarely caught squids eaten by sperm whales around the Azores.
